Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a nutrient-rich substance high in natural growth factors that can be extracted from your own blood and reapplied cosmetically to rejuvenate the skin and stimulate collagen and hair regrowth. At Arkansas Vein Clinic and Skin Care, we can use your own Platelet Rich Plasma to help expedite the healing process and stimulate collagen production for a number of treatments, including:
- ProFractional™ laser skin resurfacing
- As an addition to dermal fillers
- Micro-needling
- diVa® vaginal laser resurfacing
- Hair regrowth
At Arkansas Vein Clinic and Skin Care, we proudly use the Eclipse PRP®, an FDA-cleared type of platelet rich plasma known for producing a purer form of PRP that includes almost no red blood cells. This higher concentration of platelets makes PRP more effective.
Frequently Asked Questions about Platelet Rich Plasma in Fort Smith, AR at Arkansas Vein Clinic and Skin Care
How long does it take to prepare the PRP?
After drawing your blood, Eclipse PRP takes about 20 minutes to prepare in our office using a centrifuge and proprietary serum.
What happens during a PRP injection treatment?
To ensure your comfort during treatment, we’ll apply a numbing cream about thirty minutes before injecting PRP. Once the PRP is prepared and combined with lidocaine, the injection area is cleaned. Then, a tiny needle is used to inject PRP into targeted spots for optimal results.
Will I be able to return to my usual activities right after PRP treatment?
There is no downtime for PRP treatments, though you may want to avoid intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours due to some mild discomfort and swelling. Otherwise, you will be able to return to your usual activities immediately following treatment. If you are receiving PRP for hair regrowth, you will need to wait at least two hours before washing your hair.
When will I see results for hair regrowth?
PRP contains growth factors which can act as biological instructions to regrow hair. There are a number of triggers for thinning hair, including age, stress, hormones, and genetics. Results can depend on the patient, but many notice that less hair is falling out between four and six weeks following the first treatment. Two to four weeks after the second treatment, patients typically notice new hair growth. After the third treatment, the most significant results are seen.
How many PRP treatments will I need?
The number of PRP treatments can vary by individual. For hair regrowth, we recommend undergoing three treatments every six weeks.
