Spider and Reticular Veins

Veins have one-way valves and channel oxygen-depleted blood back toward the heart. If the valves of the veins don’t function well and blood doesn’t flow efficiently, veins can become enlarged as they are congested with blood. These enlarged veins are commonly called spider veins, reticular veins, or varicose veins. Spider veins are small red, blue, or purple veins just under the surface of the skin. Reticular veins are blue and located deeper under the skin.
